Autopsy results in for Lewis County shooting death

WATSON, N.Y. (WKTV) - The autopsy results have returned in the death of a Lewis County man, allegedly at the hands of his own father.

It was an argument between Lyle Devoy, 56 and Lyle Devoy Jr, 29 that led to Devoy Jr's death in the small Town of Watson in Lewis County.

The autopsy of Devoy Jr reveals that he and his father were facing each other when Devoy Sr allegedly fired a single shot from a 20 gauge shotgun at his son, killing him.

According to the autopsy results, Devoy Jr died of a single gunshot wound to the upper right torso and there was no exit wound. Police say the two were in the middle of an arguments, but would not say what the argument was about.

Investigators with the Lewis County Sheriff's Office say the shooting happened outside, somewhere between 9520 and 9516 Stillwater Road, which is a very rural street off of Number Four Road in Watson. There are several seasonal homes in the area.

Devoy Sr is under arrest for his son's murder and charged with second-degree murder. Currently in the Lewis County Correctional Facility, he's due in Lowville Village Court on Friday at 2 p.m. for a preliminary hearing. That hearing will serve as an almost mini-trial where witnesses testify and a judge decides if there is enough evidence to send the case to a Lewis County Grand Jury for possible indictment.

Devoy Sr and his assigned attorney could waive that hearing.
