UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A man has died after suffering a gunshot wound during an incident at Addison-Miller playground Sunday afternoon.

According to Utica Police Chief Mark Williams, a 911 call came in shortly before 12:30 p.m. Sunday for a man firing a long gun in the Addison-Miller playground in West Utica.

Chief Williams said that when officers arrived on the scene, they ordered the man to drop his weapons, but he refused.

Gunfire was exchanged and the man, whose name is not being released by authorities at the time of this writing, was brought to the hospital. The man died from his injuries after undergoing surgery at the hospital.

It is unclear as to whether or not the wounds the man sustained were from officer gunfire or were self-inflicted, but Chief Williams says the investigation is continuing.
