Multiple police agencies continue search for missing baby
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police, State Police and the FBI searched a mile-square, wooded area between the Mohawk River and Barge Canal in north Utica Wednesday for missing nine-month-old Levon Wameling.
All Utica Police would say is that they were there based on new information they'd received; information that they researched and determined was valid.
"All I can say is that we have reason to believe there might be something down here that's at least worth checking," says Utica Police Sergeant Steve Hauck.
The child disappeared from his father's front porch on May 29, but it wasn't until two weeks later that the child's grandparents reported him missing.
The delay has many, including the child's mother, Amy Warney, wondering exactly how much Jevon Wameling knows.
Warney thinks she knows what happened.
"I think that Jevon left him home alone and it was an accident and he put him somewhere," says Amy Warney, who showed up at Wednesday's search site.
Jevon Wameling has said in recent weeks that he and Warney were talking, supporting each other and planning a joint news conference. Warney says the two have not spoken and she has not spent any time with him.
Warney is planning a vigil and balloon release on baby Levon's first birthday, August 31, outside the child's father's Jay Street apartment-where the child was last seen.
