NYM Police: lock your homes and vehicles, report suspicious activity

By NEWSChannel 2 Staff

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police want to remind residents to keep their vehicles and homes locked after several reports of vehicle larcenies as well as burglaries or attempted burglaries in New York Mills.

Authorities say the majority of larcenies they have been called to investigate over the past several weeks have been from vehicles that were left unlocked overnight.

The burglaries and attempted burglaries have occurred in residential and commercial areas, police said.

With that in mind, New York Mills Police are reminding residents and business owners to secure their homes and businesses and not to leave windows or doors unsecured when not at work or not at home.

If anyone sees anything that they feel is suspicious, not matter what time of day or night, you are asked to call the police. Authorities say it is much easier to solve these types of crimes when people report suspicious activity when it is occurring in the neighborhood.

The recent activity has been occurring in the Burrstone Road, Young Avenue, Campbell Avenue, Wadas Drive, Blitzen Circle and Hillside Drive neighborhoods.

A majority of the activity is occurring in the late evening and early morning hours with a drew daytime incidents also occurring.

Any late night foot traffic or suspicious people (those not known to the neighborhood residents) should be reported to New York Mills Police at 315-736-6623.
