UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica man is accused of knocking on the door of a residence on Genesee Street early Thursday morning and then lunging at the resident with a knife when they answered the door.
According to police, officers responded to a residence on Genesee Street around 1:15 a.m. on Thursday for what was originally reported as a possible stabbing. When the officers arrived on the scene and reached the hallway, they heard yelling and saw Rickey Baker, 52, of Utica, holding a knife. The officers ordered Baker to drop the knife and he complied.
Officers located a male victim who said that he was in his apartment when he heard loud knocking on his door. He told police he opened his door, and a man lunged at him with a knife in his hand. The suspect punched the victim in the face, causing a laceration. The suspect was taken into custody and an investigation was conducted. Authorities learned that the victim's injuries were caused by the punch and not the knife. Police said Baker had a previous conviction and was charged for possessing the knife.
He is now charged with third-degree assault, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon.
