UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police are looking for a man they say shot his ex-girlfriend in the head and left her for dead. To the shock of Utica Police, and, they say, the doctors who treated the woman, she survived and after losing consciousness for a day, woke to call a family member to take her to the hospital. Police say the 22-year-old woman, whose identity is not being released, came home Monday to find her ex-boyfriend, Jerry McNair, 37, in her apartment at Parkedge Townhouses on Herkimer Road and Deborah Drive in Utica. Police say the two fought and that McNair beat her and choked her with a USB cable. They say the woman lost consciousness for a day and woke on Tuesday, at which time she called a family member to bring her to the hospital. Police say that on the way to the hospital, the woman was in such pain that her family member called an ambulance to take her there. It was then that it was learned she was actually shot in the head. Police say McNair is on the loose, and should be presumed armed with the gun used to shoot the 22-year-old victim. They say he's currently wanted on drug charges in addition to any charges related to the shooting of his former girlfriend. Anyone who believes they've seen McNair can call Utica Police at 315-223-3510.
