Teen's trial set in man's 'knockout game' death

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A Family Court trial is scheduled to start for one of two teenage boys charged in the fatal beating of a Syracuse man as part of a "knockout game."

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports that the trial for the 15-year-old charged with manslaughter in the beating death of 51-year-old Michael Daniels is set to begin Tuesday in Onondaga County Family Court.

The trial for a 13-year-old boy also charged with manslaughter is scheduled for Aug. 8. A Family Court judge will decide their cases. The Associated Press is not naming the boys because of their age.

Authorities say Daniels had just left a Syracuse convenience store on May 23 when the teens randomly attacked him during a game called "knockout." Daniels died the next day at a hospital.
