UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - On Friday in Oneida County Court, a woman admitted stealing $52,000 from the family business where she once worked.

Karen Wilson, a former employee of Nackley Insurance Agency entered the guilty plea in front of several members of the Nackley family on Friday. Wilson admitted stealing the money in order to pay credit cards and other bills between 2006 and 2011.

She pleaded guilty to a charge of grand larceny for the theft and to a forgery charge for falsifying letters from the IRS to Nackley Insurance Agency, telling the agency that their payroll taxes were satisfied when in fact they weren't. Prosecutors say it's because Wilson was stealing the payments and diverting them to her own accounts.

"As to the exact amount of the tax liability that was due in owing by the time this was uncovered, I could not give you the exact amount," said Prosecutor Bernard Hyman. "But I can tell you for sure it was more in the hundreds of thousands rather than just the $52,000 we're talking about today."

Hyman also says the family lost much more than money as a result of stress from this case.

"It had an effect on the owner. Michael Nackley was the president and unfortunately, he's no longer with us. Some of the stress that he had to deal with as a result of the actions of this individual I'm sure had an effect on his life," says Hyman.

Wilson will be sentenced January 4 in Oneida County Court to six months in the Oneida County Jail and five years probation. She'll also make full restitution at sentencing. If found guilty at trial, she'd could have received up to five to 15 years in prison on the Grand Larceny charge and two and a third to seven years on the forgery charge.
