BOONVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Boonville couple have been arrested following a domestic dispute Wednesday morning in the Village.

According to Boonville Police, officers responded around 2:25 a.m.on Wednesday to a 911 call of a domestic disturbance at 205 Academy Street. Police say that Brittany Gantz, 21, and Joshua Gantz, 24, of the residence were involved in a verbal argument about Brittany Gantz' alleged drug use. Following the argument, police said Brittany Gantz smashed a television at the residence and struck Joshua Gantz in the back and legs with a broom handle.

Joshua then allegedly began choking Brittany, grabbing her hair and slamming her against a wall. Joshua Gantz fled the scene when his estranged wife contacted 911 for police to respond.

At 3:45 a.m., Joshua Gantz was contacted by telephone and was directed to return to his residence on Academy Street where he was arrested and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and second-degree harassment.

Brittany Gantz was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment.

Both were arraigned in the Town of Steuben Court where they both posted $300 and were released, set to return to the Village of Boonville Court later Wednesday to answer the charges.

Boonville Police were assisted by the Oneida County Sheriff's Department with booking and arraignments.

An investigation is continuing into the drug allegations and more charges are pending, authorities said.
