Judge to defendant: "No woman is safe when they're around you"

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - An Oneida County Court Judge on Friday sentenced at man he called a, "predator", to eight years in state prison.

Dennis Lotoski was accused of first-degree attempted rape and burglary, for allegedly breaking into his 28-year-old victim's Lennox Ave home in west Utica.

Lotoski pleaded guilty back in September to first degree attempted rape. At his sentencing, though, Lotoski denied doing anything wrong. Oneida County Court Judge Michael L. Dwyer reminded Lotoski of his violent, criminal past.

"You've got two prior convictions for sexual abuse. You're a predator. No woman is safe when they're around you," said Judge Dwyer.

Victims of violent crimes are given the opportunity to address the court and their assailants with 'victim impact statements' at sentencing. No such statements were made at Lotoski's sentencing.
