NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. - A New Hartford man has been charged after authorities say he injured his 85 year old mother.

On February 9, 2012, after a lengthy investigation between the Town Of New Hartford Police Department, the City of Utica Police Department, and the Oneida County Office of the Aging, the New Hartford Police Department arrested Thomas Flanagan, 58, from New Hartford for second-degree assault.

Police said the investigation started after it was reported that Flanagan was involved in a domestic dispute in August 2011 with his 85 year old mother. During the dispute, police said Flanagan caused physical injury consisting of a laceration and large contusion to his mother's leg, which later had to be treated and rehabilitated for several months after the incident.

Flanagan, who is currently incarcerated in the Oneida County Jail for a parole violation, was transported to the Town of New Hartford Court where he was arraigned on the charge.

Flanagan was subsequently placed back into custody of the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $12,500 cash bail or bond and is scheduled to return to court on February 16 2012 at 1 p.m.
