Ontario man charged after alleged fight at casino

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - An Ontario man has been charged after authorities say he assaulted another patron at the Turning Stone Casino.

According to New York State Police, troopers responded to a complaint of a fight at the casino around 3:10 a.m. on Sunday, March 10. When troopers arrived, they found that Oneida Nation Police had detained Christopher M. Heywood, 31, of Nepean, Ontario after he allegedly punched a 28 year old Albany man in the face during a brief argument near the Oneida Room on the casino property.

Authorities said the victim suffered cuts to his face and was bleeding. He was treated at the scene by Turning Stone EMS personnel, but refused transport to a hospital.

Heywood was arrested and transported to the State Police Oneida barracks, where he was charged with third-degree assault. Heywood was arraigned in front of a Town of Verona Justice and remanded to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or bond and is scheduled to reappear in Verona Town Court on March 12, 2013.
