Scheidelman takes the stand in his sex abuse trial
TRENTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - An Oneida County jury deliberated for roughly an hour on Thursday in the case of Trenton Town Supervisor Mark Scheidelman before being sent home.
Scheidelman took the stand Thursday morning in his own defense in a sex abuse trial that involved a ten-year old boy.
On Wednesday, the boy as well as his mother took the stand in Oneida County Court.
Scheidelman, 53, took the stand around 10:15 a.m. on Thursday and testified until shortly before noon. He was first questioned by his attorney, to whom Scheidelman vehemently denied touching the boy any point on the night in question - November 11, 2012. Scheidelman explained during questioning that he allowed a 32 year old friend of his to live with him in his Trenton home, along with that man's three young children.
The prosecutor asked Scheidelman the nature of his relationship with that man, and Scheidelman said he had a sexual relationship with the man in the past, roughly seven years ago, which he said was well before he had allowed him and his kids to move in. That man's three young children are two young girls and a seven year old boy.
On the night in question, Scheidelman's friend had three of his nephews over for a sleep over with his three young children. That Sunday night, one of the man's three nephews said Scheidelman touched his private parts during a playful "wrestling-type" game that all four boys were having with Scheidelman.
Closing arguments got underway at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
The jury deliberated for roughly one hour before being sent home. They will re-convene Friday morning.
