CASSVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Cassville woman has been charged after authorities say she falsely reported a sexual offense earlier this month.

According to the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, during the course of an investigation that was reported earlier in the month of June, Lelia M. Carpenter, 33 "engaged in a course of action which hindered the investigation."

Authorities with the Child Advocacy Center did not release further details on what the course of action was or how it hindered the investigation.

Carpenter has been charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, third-degree falsely reporting an incident and endangering the welfare of a child.

She was booked at the Utica Police Department and scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Utica City Court.

"When it can be proven, we will arrest anyone that hinders, obstructs, interferes or otherwise abuses the system at the expense of the very children we are here to serve and protect," said Director of the Child Advocacy Center Chief Dean Obernesser.
