Bassett employee injured during attempted robbery in Cooperstown
COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Authorities are searching for a suspect in an early morning incident in the Village of Cooperstown on Wednesday that left a woman injured.
According to the Cooperstown Police Department, the incident happened at 5 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Beaver Street and Fair Street in the village.
Police say a Bassett Medical Center employee was approached by a white male, roughly 5' 4" - 5' 6" tall and around 160 pounds, asking for her wallet. When no wallet was produced, police said the male suspect struck the victim with a sharp instrument.
At that time, the male suspect was believed to be wearing a sweatshirt and dirty blue jeans, fleeing the scene on foot towards Susquehanna Ave in the Village of Cooperstown.
The suspect was believed to be around 20 years old with teeth in extremely poor condition.
The female victim received treatment at Bassett's Emergency Room and was released. No further information is being released about the victim, police said.
Cooperstown Police were assisted at the scene by Bassett Medical Center Seucirty, Otsego County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police out of Richfield Springs.

Police say that as of this writing, all investigative leads appear to be unrelated to an earlier assault that occurred in May of this year.
