Four charged in Unadilla after heroin, marijuana, paraphernalia seized

UNADILLA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Four people have been charged after the New York State police executed search warrants in the Village of Unadilla on Wednesday, seizing heroin, marijuana and other items used in the sale and use of heroin.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2012, members of the New York State Police executed search warrants in the Village of Unadilla, Otsego County, seizing heroin, marijuana, and other items used in the sale and use of heroin.

According to State Police, at approximately 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, members of the State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team and State Police in Sidney stopped Jason M. Arkins, 21, while he occupied his vehicle as it entered the Village of Unadilla off of Interstate 88 and subsequently executed a search warrant on the vehicle.

Authorities said they found approximately 4 grams of heroin and 45 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.

After the vehicle stop, troopers executed a search warrant at Arkins' residence on Silver Street in the Village of Unadilla, where they found two ounces of marijuana, a marijuana plant, numerous hypodermic needs, packaging materials normally used in the distribution of heroin and digital scales.

Troopers charged Arkins with one count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (possession with intent to sell); one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana; one count of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia; one count of possession of a hypodermic instrument; and one count of unlawfully growing cannabis. He was arraigned in the Village of Unadilla Court and remanded to Otsego County bail in lieu of $40,000 cash or $80,000 property bond.

Also charged as a result of the search of the residence were:

James F. Amatuccio, 34, of the same address, charged with one count of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of a hypodermic Instrument;

Andrew S. Wood, 21 and Eric J. Doherty, 21, both of Unadilla, who were both charged with one count of unlawful possession of marijuana and one count of possession of a hypodermic instrument.

Amatuccio, Wood, and Doherty were all released on appearance tickets.
