More than $1 million worth of marijuana seized and destroyed in Otsego County

OTSEGO COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Otsego County Sheriff's Office has announced the eradication of 416 marijuana plants from the Towns of Edmeston, Morris, Milford, and Exeter this past summer and fall.

The weight of the seized usable marijuana was 300 pounds which is valued at $600,000 if sold by the pound. If the seized marijuana was sold for $35 an eight of an ounce, which is the common price paid for street level marijuana buys in Otsego County, the value of the marijuana eradicated would be equal to $1,344,000, authorities said.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the following agencies with their annual eradication efforts: Oneonta Police Department, New York State Division of Parole, Otsego County Probation Department, Otsego County Emergency Services, Chenango and Schoharie County Sheriff's Offices, Civilian Air Patrol, New York State Police Aviation Unit and National Guard Counterdrug Aviation Unit.

Arrests for unlawfully growing of cannabis under the New York State Public Health Law were made in several of the outdoor grows.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division will continue to monitor suspected areas of the county where clandestine marijuana grows are suspected of being.
