Floyd man accused of stealing mother's car

FLOYD, N.Y. - A Floyd man is facing charges after being accused of breaking into his parents' house and stealing his mother's car.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit, Michael A. Rixford, 21, broke into his parents' residence in the Town of Floyd, while they were out of the area visiting family members and then stole his mother's the car.

During the early evening hours of May 26, 2011, Sheriff's Patrol Units were sent to a residence on New Floyd Road in the Town of Floyd to investigate a burglary complaint.

Deputies said that information was obtained that Rixford was the person responsible breaking into the home and stealing the car, and patrol units soon located him driving the stolen car in close proximity of the complaint. He was then taken into custody without incident.

Rixford was arrested for second-degree burglary and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Rixford was arraigned in the Town of Floyd Court and sent to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000.

He is scheduled to return to town court at a later date.
