Rome man accused of tying up woman, holding her captive, raping her

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Rome man is now facing numerous charges following an investigation into an alleged rape over the weekend.

On June 10, Rome Police responded to the 300 block of East Dominick Street where an adult female told officers that she had been tied up, held captive in a residence and forcibly raped by John N. Santoro, 24, whom she said she knew.

Police said they attempted to locate Santoro at his residence on First Street in Rome, but that he had fled the area prior to the police officers' arrival. Santoro was located later that night at a residence in the city of Utica and taken into custody.

Santoro has been charged with two counts of first-degree rape, one count of first-degree criminal sexual act and one count of unlawful imprisonment. Santoro is currently being held in the Oneida County Correctional Facility.

Detective James Boyer conducted the investigation into this incident and was assisted by the Rome Police Patrol Division, Forensic Division and the Utica Police Department.
