ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two Syracuse men have been charged in connection to a summer bank robbery in the City of Rome. According to Rome Police, Brandon Rothenburgh and James Nicholson, both 34, have been charged with five counts of robbery for the July 24, 2012 robbery at M&T Bank on Black River Boulevard in Rome. Police say federal authorities linked the duo to a serious of bank robberies in Gates and Auburn, which then led to the connection to the Rome robbery. Rothenburgh and Nicholson were taken into custody by federal authorities in late September. Officials from the FBI have been in contact with the Rome Police Department since that time and have updated the department as the cases have made their way through the federal court system. Rothenburgh entered a guilty plea to the M&T Bank Robbery and four other robbery charges last week in U.S. District Court in Rochester. The case against Nicholson is still pending.
