Police: Suspect in attacks on women younger than he appears in video

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police say that a man seen in surveillance footage attacking two different women at separate locations in the City of Utica is actually much younger than the images are leading residents to believe.

On December 22, the man got into a woman's car in the Price Chopper parking lot in South Utica and took her ATM card and threatened her to get her to give him her pin number. He left her after forcing her to drive him a short distance, then took money out of her bank account.

Eight days later, the man physically attacked a female worker inside the Save A Lot store on Oneida Street before the store opened. She came away from the encounter with knife wounds to her hands.

Police say they have received numerous tip from a picture of the suspect they've released, but that the distortion of the surveillance photo could be leading them to the wrong guy.

"People are identifying people that are like, in their 50s and 60s," said Sgt. Steve Hauck of the Utica Police Department. "From the witnesses that we have, we believe this person is a little bit younger, possibly in their 30s or 40s, clean shaven, no facial hair."
