Police: Utica officer injured by drunk driver
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica Police officer was injured early Saturday morning after his patrol car was hit by a drunk driver, according to law enforcement officials.
Utica Police say Officer Vincent Parrotta was patrolling the area of Albany Street and Kossuth Avenue in East Utica, when a car driven by 19-year-old Vadim Mikhalevich hit the police car, and kept on drive along Kossuth.
Officer Parrotta exited his car, chased down Mikhalevich's car and found it empty a short distance away, officials said. Mikhalevich was spotted in the neighborhood and surrendered.
Parrotta was injured and sent to St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Police did not release the extent of his injures, but a spokesperson for the hospital confirmed to NEWSChannel 2 that he was discharged.
Police say both cars suffered extensive damage.
Another officer conducted a field sobriety test and charged Mikhalevich with DWI, DWAI, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving scene of personal injury accident, speeding and passing a red light.
