Smith takes plea deal before trial begins for Schuyler Street shooting

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica man who was set to go to trial this week for allegedly firing ten rounds from a handgun into a parked car on Schuyler Street in May took a plea deal at the eleventh hour Monday.

The trial of Kwamae Smith was scheduled to begin in Oneida County Court on Monday, but instead, he pleaded guilty to possessing a weapon and reckless endangerment.

Smith is accused of firing several shots into the occupied vehicle on May 27, 2010. One of those in the vehicle at the time was Pernell Flanders, who Smith is accused of trying to kill.
