Teacher accused of stealing necklace from elementary student

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica teacher is facing charged after authorities say she stole a piece of jewelry from an elementary student.

According to Utica Police, Crystal DeRosa, 33, of Utica has been charged with fourth-degree grand larceny.

It is alleged that on October 25, 2012, DeRosa stole a gold chain from the neck of a five year old student at Columbus Elementary School in Utica.

DeRosa is a Special Education Teacher at Columbus Elementary School in Utica.

She arrested Thursday, after what the Utica City School District called "a lengthy investigation" involving the school district, Utica Police and the Oneida County District Attorney's Office.

The school district said that DeRosa will face suspension when she is arraigned.
