Downtown Revitalization project in limbo after funding rejection

By NEWSChannel 2 Staff

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The city of Utica will not receive an $8 million grant for its downtown revitalization, now putting the project into limbo.

Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri's concept is to take Genesee street down from four lanes to two, from Bagg's Square to Oneida Square.

The city had already received a quarter of a million dollars from the state, but was waiting on an eight million dollar grant from the federal government.

NEWSChannel 2 has calls in to the Mayor's Office along with Urban and Economic Development Commissioner Brian Thomas to determine what comes next. Those calls have not been returned as of this writing.
