Dozens to be laid off by Rome Savings Bank's owners
ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The company that took over the Rome Savings Bank announced layoffs Monday, affecting about 40% of the workforce. Berkshire Bank says between 30 and 40 people will lose their jobs at the West Dominick Street location next March.
The company's CEO says since the takeover this fall, they have realized that some of the positions are redundant. The company says that and the economy are the reasons behind the layoffs.
Berkshire offered those employees severance packages and some were given the opportunity to relocate. The West Dominick Street location will remain open for business.
Berkshire purchased Rome Savings Bank in October and says if the company adds positions in the future, those employees will be notified.
