Griffo and Energy Committee question National Grid's request for rate increase

By By NICOLE PITT

National Grid wants to increase what it charges to provide electricity to its customers and has asked the Public Service Commissioner to okay the increase.

Senator Joseph Griffo, who is on the Senate Energy Committee, says there were a lot of questions regarding National Grid's conduct over the last few years. The company is under investigation and officials think the rate increase is requested to cover improper management within the company.

"We talk about junkets, wine being sent overseas, school tuition being paid by executives of National Grid," Senator Griffo said. "It's outrageous, and then to come back and ask the people to pay the bill?!"

Griffo has asked the Public Service Commission to reject National Grid's request, and adds that there is an independent investigation into the company's policies.
