Highest-ranking woman in Republican Conference of the House tours Utica business

By ANDREW DONOVAN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - With only 41 days until Election Day, Congressman Richard Hanna invited a fellow Republican representative to Central New York and they spent the day focusing on jobs for those with disabilities.

Hanna invited Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers from Washington state to tour Human Technologies Corporation in Utica, a local company who employees 350 of the disabled.

Both Hanna and McMorris Rodgers say they are strong advocates for disabled individuals. Nearly 1 million jobs for those who are disabled have been lost in the economic recession and the two congress members are fighting to get those jobs back.

"When you look at the unemployment rate among those with disabilities, it's raging high. It's almost 70 percent and yet when you talk to those with disabilities, the vast majority of them would like to work," Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers said. "And as much as we can focus on addressing employment barriers and opening up opportunity for them to work, the better."

Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers is the highest-ranking woman in the Republican Conference of the House of Representatives.
