Local recycling business acquires local transportation company

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Empire Recycling Corporation in Utica is expanding its operation with the acquisition of another local company.

The local recycling company has purchased transportation company Lightning Fast Freight out of Frankfort.

The move allows empire to add 30 new jobs. It also will help the company to provide additional markets for its recyclable materials.

Right now empire handles more than 30-million pounds of recyclables each month.

"Transportation is a huge part of our business and customer service depends on it - being able to better control the costs and the logistics of all types of freight is imperative to maintaining that service. This acquisition will enable us to help our customers with inbound and outbound freight as well as providing additional markets for their recyclable materials," said Dave Levitt, project manager for Empire.

Empire has eight divisions, including Utica. The others are in Syracuse, Liverpool, Waterloo, Albany, Watertown and Binghamton.
