Premier Aviation moves into Rome

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Elected officials in Oneida County are calling the newest tenant to the Griffiss Airport the best one to create and maintain jobs.

Premier Aviation was welcomed to Griffiss Tuesday by Mohawk Valley Edge.

Premier recently bought Empire Aero.

Officials who helped bring the company here say Premier was chosen as a new tenant because they were willing to invest in Griffiss and hire Empire Aero employees who were previously laid off.

About 70 of those workers were on hand for the announcement Tuesday.

Ronnie Di Bartolo, the owner of the company, says he plans to build his company in Rome.

"The folks from Edge and Oneida County were very welcoming to Premier and made it somehow very attractive to us to install ourselves here in Rome, New York," Di Bartolo said.

Di Bartolo says he currently has 80 employees, but expects to grow the company in the near future to around 300 employees.
