<b> UPSTATE N.Y. (WKTV) </b> - Businesses and communities recovering from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee can now apply for grants. A $30 Million dollar grant program is now accepting applications.

It was a joint announcement between the Empire State Development and the Department of Environmental Conservation. There are two components of the program. $21 Million dollars will go to entities that sustained direct flood-related damage and the other $9 Million will be used to support flood mitigation or flood control projects in waterways.

DEC Commissioner Joe Martens said "Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee caused significant damage to New York's waterways. With these grants and working in partnership with DEC staff, localities will be able to take action to repair streams and prevent future harm to property, infrastructure and the environment. This money will help these hard-hit regions clean up its waterways and protect public and private infrastructure from future flood events."

Applications for the Business Flood Recovery Grant Program must be submitted by March 16th, 2012. Small businesses, farms, multiple dwelling homes and not-for-profits can apply.
