By WKTV News

UTICA/ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The number of private sector jobs in the Utica-Rome area has increased by almost 3 percent in the past year, according to the New York State Labor Department.

A report shows that 2,800 jobs were added in the private sector between September 2010 to September 2011.

Officials say some of the biggest areas of growth in the area were:

*1,600 jobs in the "Educational and Health Services" category, which labor department officials said would include private high schools and colleges, as well as hospitals.

*500 jobs in the "Professional and Business Services" category, which would include administrative positions, as well as workers in places like lawyer's offices and waste management, officials said.

*400 jobs in the "Trade, Transportation and Utilities" category, which labor officials said would include jobs in retail and wholesale trade.

The remaining jobs were made up of various other smaller numbers in a slew of other categories, labor officials said.
