Assemblywoman Tenney: Combine libraries and post offices; save both, save money

By HILARY LANE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney has proposed an idea to consolidate post offices and libraries throughout the region.

Since both are often centers of small towns and struggling financially, combining both would be a way to cut maintenance, utility, and staffing costs, Tenney says. She adds that she is speaking with Congressmen Bill Owens and other elected officials in Oswego and Oneida Counties to find out how to turn her idea into a reality.

"I was thinking they are both coming into the computer age and the post office offers a lot more services than it used to, so it is a way of helping rural communities," says Tenney.

Tenney says the first goal is to set up a experimental consolidation in the region.
