Utica College to create Cyber Forensics Center with Economic Development Funding

By HILARY LANE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica College will use the $250,000 of regional economic development funds from the state to create the "Northeast Cyber Forensics Center" on campus.

There, prosecutors, law enforcement, and other specialists will be able to examine digital evidence left at crime scenes.

Items to be analyzed include cell phones, hard drives, and GPS units.

"All of those services are really hard to get and there is a big demand for them," said Raymond Philo, Research Director, Department of Economic Crime and Justice. "So we are looking to fill those demands and establish business units and create jobs."

The center will begin to take shape in the upcoming year.
