MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - SUNYIT is officially under construction.

State lawmakers who helped secure the money - and the athletes who will play in it - all helped break ground on SUNYIT's new $20 million field house on Friday.

The field house will be home to the college's intercollegiate athletics and recreation programs.

SUNYIT President Dr. Wolf Yeigh said the new field house will allow the college's physical facilities catch up to the talented athletes who play in them.

"We were the division champs for basketball; the women's volleyball won the division this past year," Dr. Yeigh said. "Our athletics programs are just booming and what we really needed on this campus...in addition to a wonderful student facility - is athletic facilities as well. This is just timely."

Also included in the $20 million project - a lighted turf field, a new baseball diamond and improvements to the softball field.
