NYS 'appliance swap out' program extended; $9M still available
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New Yorkers have more time to take advantage of a state-run program that gives rebates to consumers who purchase high-efficiency appliances.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority says it's extending the "Great Appliance Swap Out." The program began on February 12th and was originally scheduled to end this past Sunday. NYSERDA officials say because of the continued demand for energy-efficient appliances spurred by the program, the "swap out" is being continued until all available funds are gone. The state allocated nearly $17 million for the program and says as of Monday, New Yorkers had applied for more than $7.7 million in rebates. People who purchase new appliances can get rebates as high as $555 for purchasing high efficiency refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers and dishwashers. --- On the Web: www.nyapplianceswapout.com (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press.
