UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Congressman Richard Hanna was at the Veterans Outreach Center in Utica on Tuesday to outline his plan to help local vets land employment.

Hanna, joined by former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, spoke about the legislation he supports to help vets in their day-to-day lives.

The bills include paying additional tuition and fees for vets obtaining a college education, holding "open door" public meetings to address important issues, and encouraging employers to hire service men and women.

"There are advantages to employers, new laws being enacted that give tax credits for people who hire vets," Congressman Hanna said.

The unemployment rates for veterans is now double the national average.
