Frankfort marina to get a face lift this spring

By HILARY LANE

FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Frankfort Marina will be getting a facelift this spring, thanks to grants from Governor Andrew Cuomo's office.

The first phase of the project includes purchasing 3.3 acres of land from the New York State Canal Corporation and developing recreational trails, new boat and fishing access points, and camping sites on that property.

"This is just the first part of a long process that we still want to develop," says Frank Moracco, Mayor of the Village of Frankfort. "We hope to, down the road, develop the back side of the canal and have a nature trail on that side and we hope that will be successful."

Later plans also include adding a new restaurant, amphitheater, cabins, and a kayak and canoe rental location to the marina.

"The ultimate goal is to bring people into our community, give them an opportunity to see what our community is all about, and once that opportunity to bring people in and see what Frankfort is all about, they will stay and want to come back," says Moracco.

The Village of Frankfort was awarded a $114,000 grant from Governor Cuomo's office to develop this project.

The first phase is expected to be completed in Fall 2012. The rest of the projects will be completed as soon additional grant money becomes available.
