Officials talk progress on Marcy nanocenter site
MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Could we soon see buildings go up on the nanocenter site in Marcy?
At an economic development update held by The Genesis Group Thursday in New Hartford, that was the very topic of conversation.
There have been signings to approve state funding as a way to pave the proverbial road to a nanocenter. There's been road construction and soon there will be a brand new, large water and sewer line put in as well as money for electricity.
"Relocate a 115,000 volt transmission line, and build a loop road around the property, which is funded," said Mark Reynolds, Senior Vice President of Mohawk Valley EDGE. "We're just going through the design process right now."
Reynolds says the much talked about nanocenter will hopefully become a reality in the next couple of years.
"There is a lot of things that happen behind the scenes, but it's nice for the public and the business community to hear exactly what is going on," said Ray Durso, CEO of The Genesis Group.
The site is being marketed on a daily basis.
"Keep our finger on the pulse of where they may be investing, and try to lure them first to the United States and then to New York State," Reynolds said. "Some of the household names are companies like Intel, Samsung or Micron, and there are also a tier of companies that are direct suppliers to name brands like Qualcomm, but they may not be household names, like Global Foundries, Taiwan Semiconductor and such."
The hope is that one or maybe more than one company will want to open a plant at the Marcy site in the near future now that the site is just about ready to build.
