Otsego County Economic Development Summit held in Cooperstown

By HILARY LANE

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Senator James Seward hosted the "Otsego County Economic Development Summit" at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown on Thursday.

Government officials, business people, and residents all gathered to discuss ideas and strategies to spur economic growth in Otsego County.

A few months ago, Governor Cuomo awarded $60.2 million to the Mohawk Valley Economic Development, but Otsego County only received a little over $3 million of that pie.

Seward said he wants to ensure people in the Otsego County area that money will be available next year for economic development projects.

"It was an expedited process and I am not sure business owners and other employers in Otsego County were fully briefed on the opportunities that are out there, in terms of this new process and access it," said Seward.

Officials and residents broke out into groups to brainstorm ideas. Seward says he will host more of these meetings in the future.
