Some laid off social services workers called back to work for Oneida County

ONEIDA COUNTY (WKTV) - Oneida County has called some laid off social services workers back to work.

County Executive Anthony Picente says they made the move in hopes of avoiding sanctions and fines stemming from a lawsuit accusing the county of failing to open new cases in the required 30-day time frame.

"The issue of timeliness in opening cases has been a problem for the last few years," Picente said. "As I said, it goes back to numerous issues of why. We're hopeful that this is a way, like I said, to stave off any types of fine or penalties from the courts or from the state or from the government."

Picente says that additional social service employees could be brought back to work. So far, roughly nine have already been called back.
