State Business Council listens to local employers

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Business Council of New York State held a meeting at the Radisson Hotel in Utica on Tuesday to give employers the chance to share their praises and concerns when it comes to Governor Cuomo's 2013-2014 Executive Budget.

Council President Heather Briccetti said that among the positives in the budget was relief for local business owners when it comes to workers compensation and unemployment insurance.

Proving to be troubling, some said, was the Governor's proposal to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $8.75 an hour, which could put a strain on employers.

Briccetti said the Business Council will be presenting Cuomo with some recommendations in the near future.

"A gradual phase of the minimum wage as its been done as it's been done in the past," said Briccetti.
