Utica College to lease office space in long-vacant Harza Building

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Dozens of local legislators, business leaders, and residents gathered downtown Thursday for the announcement that Utica College will be leasing space on the fourth and fifth floors of the Harza Building.

Utica College will be using the space to expand its online division and attract thousands more students from all over the country.

The expansion project, which is supported by a $250,000 state grant, will retain 27 jobs and create 25 new permanent jobs over the next five years.

Todd Hutton, the President of Utica College said it is mutually beneficial to support the downtown area.

"If the core of a city thrives, the entire city thrives," Hutton said. "If Utica College thrives, the city thrives."

Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri said more companies are now interested in moving downtown after hearing the news about the college.

Utica College has signed a 10 year lease with the owner of the Harza Building, Tom Clark.
