SCHUYLER LAKE, N.Y. - Joined by members of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) announced Monday night that the 2009-2010 state budget includes, at his request, $15,000 to help with construction of a new fire station.

“Volunteer departments like Schuyler Lake work hard to protect our community and are in need of the proper tools to get the job done,” said Senator Seward. “The senate funding will help with the construction of a much needed new fire station that will enhance life saving services in rural Otsego County, and improve safety for our first responders.”

The senate funding will help fund construction of a new fire station for the Schuyler Lake Fire Department. The building will replace the current station constructed in 1949.

“We greatly appreciate the support from Senator Seward,” said Schuyler Lake Fire Department Chief William Peters. “The new station will be better equipped to meet the demands of modern firefighting, allowing us to continue providing vital emergency services to the community.”

"First responders need the right tools for the job to properly and safely protect our residents, homes and businesses. I am glad that the senate could assist," Seward concluded.
