FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - State Labor Commissioner Patricia Smith visited the Mohawk Valley to promote On-The-Job training (OJT) and other employer-friendly programs. The program pays 50% of wages for trainees for a 26 weeks.

Roughly 15 Mohawk Valley businesses currently use the OJT program according to labor officials. Aside from OJT there are also recruitment services offered through the state.

"The labor department does have services vital to small businesses," Smith said. "In these tough economic times we want to promote them. We want small businesses to use them. We want to help you."

Smith spoke in front of business leaders and elected officials at DeIorio's Bakery in Frankfort. DeIorio's hired 21 people through this program this year and plans to add more jobs in the near future.
