ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Empire Aero Center has confirmed that about 88 direct and indirect positions are being cut.

Company officials say the cuts are part of a larger effort to contain costs in proportion with immediate work requirements at the facility.

They say aircraft maintenance requirements have diminished in the midst of the global recession, as carriers have reduced their capacity.

The company's president says the cuts will take place immediately.
