Changes ahead, cutting of hours, days likely after library proposition defeated
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - On Thursday night, voters overwhelmingly defeated a re-charter that would have made the New Hartford Public Library a school district library instead of a municipal one.
Linda Romano, the President of the Library Board of Trustees said that the move would have stabilized library funding and that users wouldn't have noticed any difference in the library. She says the fact that the re-charter was voted down doesn't mean things will now just stay the same.
"We're looking at cutting, definitely an additional day a week and perhaps another two days a week of actually closing and we'll have to curtail hours further," Romano said.
If the plan was approved, it would have meant $42 more a year for taxpayers.
