Mohawk Valley Council on Alcoholism/Addictions and Family Services of the Mohawk Valley announce merger

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two area services will become one in 2011 when the Mohawk Valley Council on Alcoholism/Addictions and Family Services of the Mohawk Valley merge.

Both agencies provide programs and services that attempt to improve the lives of individuals and families through education, prevention and counseling, especially for those impacted by addictions, mental illness, and abuse.

The idea of merger was first discussed in early 2010, and a partnership committee comprised of representatives from both agencies was formed. Upon the recommendation of the committee, the Boards of Directors of the two organizations unanimously voted approval of the consolidation proposal.

The presidents of the two boards, Frank Furno and Rich Pratt, stated that the merger will bring “life changing” opportunities for both agencies and the clients they serve. The agency anticipates an improvement in the quality of the services it provides and an expansion of the services currently offered by the two agencies. The merged agency says it will be in a better position to "maximize efficiency and strengthen long-term financial stability for its community based services giving clients assistance with prevention, treatment support and recovery programs."
