Warm weather causes freeze for some businesses reliant on snow

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - With the nice weather, comes a freeze for some businesses who rely on the snow.

Normally, this is the time of year when snow mobiles are flying out the door, but this year, Mother Nature decided she has other plans and local businesses are feeling the heat.

Owner of DDS Motor Sports in Utica, Sam Girmonde, in Utica says "Sometimes we get a little snow around Thanksgiving that kind of gets people going. We did get some snow a few weeks ago, but then we've had some unseasonably warm weather."

With near record-breaking highs the last few days, it feels more like the end of summer than the end of November.

Girmonde says that although sales for snow mobiles are about the same as last year, some of his inventory is staying put.

For now, though, Sam says they're stocked up and ready to go when the snow falls.

"The only thing we can do is just keep our fingers crossed and just hope that we do get the snow," he said.
