Columbus Elementary students showcase their many cultures

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica's Columbus Elementary School held an International Fair Friday to show off the diversity of its students. The schools families together represent almost forty different countries.

Irish, Latino and Bosnian dancers, as well as a Shotokan karate group entertained attendants as they enjoyed ethnic food.

Students and families spent the night socializing and learning about the many cultures close to home.

"It's an education you can't get in the book," says Columbus Elementary School's Principal Pearl Bowker. "It doesn't come out of the book and just the exposure to different cultures than their own is just an amazing experience for them and also for their parents."

Bowker says there are over 22 different languages spoken at the school.
